Chapter 1.3 – What is RouterBOARD
What is RouterBOARD?
It is a family of hardware solutions with circuits designed by MikroTik to respond to the needs of customers worldwide. All RouterBOARD boards operate with the RouterOS operating system.
This hardware division is characterized by including its RouterOS operating system and lifetime updates. These devices have the advantage of having an excellent cost/benefit ratio compared to other solutions on the market.

Integrated solutions
- These products are provided complete with cases and power adapters.
- Ready to use and pre-configured with the most basic functionality.
- All you need to do is plug it in and connect to the Internet or a corporate network.
RouterBOARD only
They are small motherboards that are sold “as is”. You must choose the model and additionally order the power adapter and interfaces, all separately. It is ideal for mounting proprietary systems/implementations.
Enclosures
They are indoor/outdoor covers, used to house RouterBOARD devices. The selection is made based on:
- Planned location
- The RouterBOARD model
- The type of connections necessary (USB, antennas, etc.).
Interfaces
- Ethernet modules, fiber SFPs, or wireless radio cards to expand the functionality of RouterBOARD devices and PCs with RouterOS.
- Again, selection is based on need.
Accessories
It covers the entire range of additional devices for MikroTik products, such as: power adapters, mounts, antennas and PoE injectors.
Made For MikroTik (MFM) Program
This program consists of two parts: “Mikrotik Certified Integrators” and “Mikrotik Certified Accessories”
MikroTik Certified Accesories
They are made by MikroTik approved companies, and that make accessories specifically for MikroTik products. This includes RouterBOARD compatible products, external antennas and other products.
MikroTik Certified Integrator
They are companies that make solutions based on a RouterBOARD MikroTik and RouterOS. These products include CPE/AP device assembly, pre-installation of integrated antennas, and rack-mount solutions with RouterOS.
Why work with an integrated router
With this type of solution many needs can be met.
- Integrated routers provide little or no expansion, as they come with a fixed hardware configuration (WiFi, Ethernet ports, on-board memory, USB ports)
- This is a simple, but very solid solution for many needs.
