Course Objectives
The main objective of the MAE-IP6-MED course (IPv6 MikroTik, intermediate level) is to deepen the knowledge of IPv6 in the context of MikroTik devices.
Throughout the course, students will explore the differences between IPv4 and IPv6, learn about IPv6 addressing and address types, and gain practical skills in static routing and address assignment.
Chapter 1: Introduction
In this chapter, students will learn about the history and reasons for the creation of IPv6, its features and advantages, and why it is necessary to adopt IPv6 today.
Chapter 2: Differences between IPv4 and IPv4
Chapter 2 focuses on the differences between IPv4 and IPv6. Students will learn about IPv4 and IPv6 addresses, the CIDR notation in both versions, and the main differences between them.
In addition, the encapsulations and header fields of both versions and the advantages of the simplified IPv6 header will be studied.
Chapter 3: IPv6 Addressing
This section discusses IPv6 addressing. Students will learn about hexadecimal numbering, how to compress bytes, hexadecimal values, and how to convert them. Preferred format, skip rule, and address distribution will also be discussed. Finally, subnetting in IPv6 will be explained.
Chapter 4: Types of IPv6 Addresses
The types of IPv6 addresses are covered here. Students will learn about unicast addresses (global, link-local, loopback, unspecified, and unique local), multicast addresses, and anycast addresses.
The topic of integrated IPv4 and how these addresses are assigned in different contexts will be discussed.
Chapter 5: Static Routing with IPv6
In Chapter 5, students will gain practical skills in static routing with IPv6. They will learn about routing concepts, how to enable IPv6, route labels and their meaning.
General and read-only properties in static route configuration, route types, and how to configure the default route will also be explored. In addition, they will carry out practical laboratories on addressing assignment and static routing.
Chapter 6: IPv6 Address Assignment
Finally, methods of assigning IPv6 addresses are examined. Students will learn about the Neighbor Discovery protocol, SLAAC mappings, and how an SLAAC address is constructed.
The EUI-64 process and its advantages will be studied. Regarding DHCP assignments, topics such as DHCPv6 PD Server, general and read-only properties, RADIUS support, rate limiting and DHCPv6 PD Client will be covered. Students will also have the opportunity to apply this knowledge in practical laboratories.
By the end
Upon completion of the course, students will be able to understand and apply advanced IPv6 concepts in network environments using MikroTik devices.
They will be able to configure static routing, assign IPv6 addresses, and work with protocols such as SLAAC and DHCPv6.
