What the student will learn
By completing this tutorial, students will be able to:
- IPv6 Address Configuration
- OSPFv3 Implementation in Single Area
- OSPFv3 Deployment in Multiple Areas
- OSPFv3 Instance Configuration
- OSPFv3 Area Management
- OSPFv3 Verification and Monitoring
- OSPFv3 Troubleshooting
Requirements
- Understand basic networking concepts, such as network types (LAN, WAN), network topologies, and OSI/TCP-IP models.
- Know the differences between public and private IP addresses, and how they are used in networks.
- Have knowledge of subnets, netmasks and IP addressing.
- Understand the basic concepts of routing and switching in networks.
- Know how Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP) and Domain Name System (DNS) work.
- Understand the assignment of dynamic and static IPs.
General Purpose
Provide a comprehensive and practical understanding of the OSPFv3 routing protocol, especially adapted for networks using IPv6, using MikroTik devices.
This tutorial primarily aims to equip students with the knowledge and skills necessary to deploy and manage OSPFv3 in different network scenarios, from single-area configurations to more complex multi-area configurations.
Objectives by Chapter
1. Single Area OSPFv3 Implementation
- Familiarize the student with the fundamentals of OSPFv3 and guide them through the configuration of a single area network using MikroTik devices.
- The student is expected to learn how to configure IPv6 addresses, OSPFv3 instances, areas, and interfaces, in addition to verifying and monitoring the network status.
- Students will be able to implement OSPFv3 on single area IPv6 networks, ensuring effective communication and correct distribution of routes within that area.
2. Multi Area OSPFv3 Implementation
- Expand student knowledge of OSPFv3 to include configuring and managing multi-area networks.
- This chapter aims to teach students how to design and configure a segmented OSPFv3 network, managing connectivity and route redistribution between areas to optimize network performance.
- By the end of this chapter, students will be able to configure multi-area OSPFv3 networks, allowing them to manage larger, more complex networks in an efficient and scalable manner.
At the end of this Tutorial
By completing this tutorial, students will have gained a deep understanding of OSPFv3 and its application in IPv6 network environments using MikroTik RouterOS.
They will be able to:
- Design and implement single-area and multi-area OSPFv3 networks, tailoring the configuration to the specific needs of your network.
- Effectively configure IPv6 addresses, OSPFv3 instances, OSPFv3 areas, and interfaces on MikroTik devices.
- Verify and monitor OSPFv3 status to ensure network stability and efficiency.
- Resolve common issues related to OSPFv3 deployment and tune configuration to optimize network performance.
This knowledge and skills are critical for networking professionals looking to manage modern, scalable IPv6 networks, preparing them to meet the network challenges of the future with confidence.
