Course Objectives
The MAE-VPN-IPS course aims to teach students how to configure and manage IPSec tunnels on MikroTik RouterOS.
Throughout the course, you will learn about IPSec features, protocols, authentication, and implementing IPSec tunnels in different scenarios.
Chapter 1: Introduction to IPsec Tunnel
Students will learn about fundamental features of IPSec, such as confidentiality, integrity, authentication, and session replay protection. Additionally, IPSec modes of operation and how to update RouterOS to the latest version will be discussed.
Chapter 2: IPsec Protocols
IPSec protocols, including Authentication Header (AH) and Encapsulating Security Payload (ESP), will be explored, along with their respective transport and tunnel modes. Students will also learn about the encryption algorithms used in IPSec and how to perform neighbor authentication.
Chapter 3: Internet Key Exchange
This chapter focuses on Internet Key Exchange (IKE) and its modes of operation. Students will learn about additional features of IKE and the difference between symmetric and asymmetric encryption.
Chapter 4: Polices, Groups, Statictis, Peers
Students will learn about policies, groups, statistics, and peer-to-peer connections in IPSec. The properties and configurations of each element and how they interrelate in the context of an IPSec implementation will be discussed.
Chapter 5: Proporsals, Installed SAs, Keys
The proposals, Installed SAs and Keys in IPSec will be explored. Students will learn the properties and configurations of each and how they are used in creating IPSec tunnels. Additionally, they will carry out a practical laboratory to configure a site-to-site IPSec tunnel.
Chapter 6: Xauth Users
This chapter focuses on Xauth users and the integration with the Radius client and UserManager in RouterOS. Students will learn about how UserManager and the Radius protocol work and how to apply them in user authentication on an IPSec network.
Chapter 7: L2tp+IPsec
Students will learn about the combination of L2TP and IPSec and how they are used together to improve security in VPN networks. The technical characteristics and advantages and disadvantages of L2TP will be discussed. In addition, two practical laboratories will be carried out in which students will configure L2TP servers and clients, both with and without IPSec.
By the end
What the student gets upon completion of the course: Upon completion of this course, students will master configuring and managing IPSec tunnels in MikroTik RouterOS.
Additionally, they will be able to apply this knowledge in real network environments, improving the security and reliability of communications.
