Course Objectives

The MTCINE Course (MikroTik Certified Inter Networking Engineer) is a training program designed for those interested in obtaining advanced knowledge about networks and becoming experts in the implementation and configuration of MikroTik devices.

Throughout the course, various aspects related to routing, routing protocols and traffic engineering will be explored. The course is divided into eight main chapters, each with specific objectives:

Chapter 1: Introduction

Participants will gain an overview of the course and understand the basics of autonomous systems (AS) and AS mapping. Additionally, they will become familiar with the 16-bit and 32-bit autonomous system number (ASN) tables, as well as the relationships between ASs. This chapter lays the foundation for further knowledge and establishes the importance of BGP protocols.

Chapter 2: BGP Scenarios

Students will explore different routing scenarios using the BGP protocol. The cases of Single Homed, Multi Homed, Dual Homed, Single Multi-Homed and Dual Multi Homed will be analyzed, providing a deep understanding of the configurations and implications of each of them. BGP connection tracking and route distribution will also be covered, with practical examples and laboratories to reinforce learning.

Chapter 3: eBGP/iBGP

It focuses on exterior (eBGP) and interior (iBGP) routing protocols. Participants will learn about Loopback interfaces and multi-hop configurations, which are critical in BGP implementation. The concepts of eBGP will be explored and how it differs from iBGP will be explained. Hands-on labs will allow students to set up and apply these protocols in real-world situations.

Chapter 4: BGP Attributes

Students will discover the different categories of BGP attributes and their role in the router's decision-making process. Attributes such as Nexthop, Weight, Local Preference, AS Path, AS Path Prepend, Main/Backup Link, Load sharing setup, Origin, MED, Community, Aggregation, Router Reflect and Confederation will be explored. Through hands-on labs, participants will be able to manipulate and configure these attributes to achieve desired results.

Chapter 5: MPLS

The MPLS chapter will provide a detailed introduction to the MPLS architecture and its key components. Students will learn about the MPLS header, the MPLS label stack, and how packets are transmitted over the network. Topics such as MPLS static label configuration, the LDP protocol and its configuration will be covered, and hands-on labs will allow participants to experiment with MPLS configuration and operation.

Chapter 6: L3VPN VRF

In this section, students will dive into the world of virtual private networks (VRF) and virtual wide area networks (L3VPN). The concept of route leaking and VRF management will be explored. Participants will also learn about the Router Distinguisher and will be provided with examples of basic VRF configurations. Through hands-on labs, students will be able to configure and experiment with implementing VRF in a real-world environment.

Chapter 7: L2VPN VPLS

Introduction to Layer 2 Virtual Private Networks (L2VPN) and the Ethernet emulation service provided by VPLS (Virtual Private LAN Service). The properties and characteristics of VPLS will be discussed, as well as VPLS configuration using BGP. Students will also learn about the effect of Penultimate hop popping on VPLS tunnels and the concept of VPLS bridging will be explored. Through hands-on labs, participants will be able to configure and experiment with VPLS using both LDP and BGP.

Chapter 8: Traffic Engineering

Traffic engineering and its capabilities and components will be analyzed. The RSVP (Resource Reservation Protocol) protocol and its attributes will be explored, as well as the operation of the CSPF (Constrained Shortest Path First). Participants will learn about static roads and automatic bandwidth adjustment settings in TE (Traffic Engineering) tunnels. Through a hands-on lab, students will be able to experiment with traffic engineering settings in a controlled environment.

The MTCINE Course covers a wide range of topics related to routing, BGP, MPLS, VRF, VPLS protocols and traffic engineering. Each chapter focuses on specific objectives and provides practical examples and laboratories to strengthen learning. Upon completion of the course, participants will be equipped with the knowledge necessary to become experts in deploying and configuring MikroTik devices in complex network environments.

Pre requirements

  • Be clear about the concepts covered in the Fundamental Concepts Book and Advanced Routing Book, or have taken certification courses MTCNA y MTCRE
  • Solid knowledge of IP Addressing, Subnetting and VLSM, but especially a strong foundation in Dynamic Routing Protocols (OSPF)
  • It is suggested to have previous experience configuring MikroTik equipment
