Book Objectives
This course's main objective is to provide the knowledge necessary to configure and manage key aspects of the network using MikroTik devices. Additionally, it focuses on topics such as DNS, DHCP, firewall, NAT, mangle, HTB, queues, proxy, TTL and load balancing.
DNS
In this chapter, you will learn about the importance of DNS in networks, how to configure and manage the DNS cache on MikroTik devices, and complete hands-on labs related to Transparent DNS and Static DNS.
DHCP
Here, you will become familiar with how the DHCP protocol works, how to configure DHCP clients and servers, and complete hands-on DHCP server and DHCP Relay configuration labs.
FirewallFilter
You will study packet flow in a firewall, learn about connection tracking and TCP states, and explore specific firewall filter actions and configurations.
Firewall Filter - Chain Input
It focuses on the firewall ingress chain, how to identify and mitigate types of network intrusion, and conducting hands-on ingress filtering and network intrusion detection labs.
Firewall Filter - Chain Forward
Here, you will explore the firewall forwarding chain and perform hands-on labs related to packet filtering in the forwarding chain.
Bogon IPs
In this section, you will learn about bogon IP addresses and how to configure and use bogon IP addresses in the MikroTik environment.
NAT firewall
It will teach about the structure of the NAT firewall, dst-nat and redirect actions, and how to configure RAW in the firewall and its relationship with the mangrove.
Mangle Firewall
Here, you will learn about the concept of MSS, how to mark packets in the mangle firewall, and do hands-on mangle exercise labs.
HTB
You will study the structure of the HTB, learn about dual throttling and queuing priority, and analyze typical HTB configuration examples.
Queues
You will become familiar with the general concepts and principles of rate limiting, simple queues, queuing tree, and PCQ in RouterOS.
Burst
You will learn about burst in the context of queuing and how to configure and use burst in RouterOS.
Web proxy
This chapter will teach you how to configure a transparent proxy, use the proxy-based firewall, and manage the cache on the proxy.
TTL
Here, you will learn the TTL change action in mangrove and how to modify the TTL of packets in RouterOS.
Load balancing
You will study different load balancing methods, such as PCC, ECMP, and Nth Packet, and how to configure and use each method in RouterOS.
By the end
At the end of the course, readers will have received all the information that MikroTik Certified Traffic Control Engineers study and will be able to implement effective network traffic management solutions.
They will also be prepared to face the MTCTCE certification exam, which will allow them to demonstrate their competence in the use of RouterOS and position themselves as qualified professionals in the field of networking and MikroTik device management.
