Book Objectives
The book Advanced Routing with MikroTik RouterOS aims to provide readers with practical knowledge and relevant skills in the field of routing using MikroTik's RouterOS platform.
Throughout its seven chapters, different aspects of routing are addressed, from managing routing tables to configuring routing protocols such as OSPF, VRRP, and PPP tunnels.
Chapter 1: Routing in RouterOS
In this chapter, you will gain a complete understanding of routing in MikroTik's RouterOS. Beginning with an introduction to the structure of the routing information base (RIB), the different methods for selecting routes and the properties of the routing table are explored.
Specific routing capabilities are described, such as default routes, connected routes, multipath routing (ECMP), and the use of gateway interfaces.
Readers will learn how to implement routing policies based on the routing protocol and will be guided through troubleshooting common problems in complex routing environments.
Chapter 2: Simple Static Routing
Knowledge about static routing and its different characteristics and configurations is reinforced.
Aspects such as ECMP routing for load balancing, configuring route distance, using routing marks for applying routing policies, and manipulating the TTL field are covered.
The resolution of Recursive Next-Hop and the use of Scope and Target-Scope are also addressed.
You will learn how to configure static routes and their options, and how these routes can be used in conjunction with other routing protocols.
Chapter 3: OSPF
In this chapter, we delve deeper into the OSPF (Open Shortest Path First) Protocol and its configuration in MikroTik.
The fundamental aspects of OSPF are explored, such as its network structure, the different types of areas, routers and neighbors, the exchange of routing information and flooding of LSAs.
Topics such as route summarization, the design of an OSPF network, IP addressing, OSPF timers and troubleshooting techniques to resolve possible OSPF problems are addressed.
Practical laboratories are included to consolidate the knowledge acquired. You will learn how to implement and configure OSPF on a MikroTik network.
Chapter 4: Routing and Point-to-point Interface
In this section, participants gain a detailed understanding of routing and point-to-point interfaces in MikroTik. Concepts such as virtual VLANs, use of the 802.1Q protocol, Q-in-Q, and VXLAN are explored.
You will study IPIP and EOIP tunnels, including configuring addressing for point-to-point interfaces. You will analyze the integration of EOIP and bridging to achieve efficient network connectivity.

Chapter 5: VRRP
The fifth chapter introduces the VRRP (Virtual Router Redundancy Protocol) protocol and its implementation in MikroTik. Fundamental VRRP concepts are examined, such as virtual routers, virtual MAC addresses, and the owner, master, and backup roles.
