- Know the differences between public and private IP addresses, and how they are used in networks.
- Have knowledge of subnets, netmasks and IP addressing.
- Understand the basic concepts of routing and switching in networks.
- Know how Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP) and Domain Name System (DNS) work.
- Understand the assignment of dynamic and static IPs.
General Purpose
Provide students with a comprehensive knowledge of routing protocol configuration and administration OSPF using MikroTik RouterOS in different network scenarios.
Upon completion, participants will be able to implement efficient and scalable OSPF routing solutions that fit the needs of a variety of network structures, from single-area configurations to complex multi-area networks with virtual links.
Objectives by Chapter
1. Single Area OSPF Implementation
- OSPF configuration in a single area within MikroTik RouterOS, including preparing the environment, configuring interfaces, and establishing neighbor relationships.
- By learning how to configure OSPF on a single area network, you will understand how routes are propagated within this configuration, and how to maintain and verify the status of OSPF routing.
2. Multi Area OSPF Implementation
- Configuring OSPF in a multi-area environment, demonstrating how to divide an OSPF network into distinct areas to improve routing efficiency and scalability.
- Structure an OSPF network into multiple areas, configure OSPF areas, assign interfaces to specific areas, and you will understand the benefits of this division in terms of optimizing network performance.
3. Multi Area OSPF Implementation with Virtual-Link
- Implementation of OSPF in multi-area networks that require the use of virtual links to ensure full OSPF connectivity, especially in situations where the network design prevents a direct connection to the backbone area.
- Configure and manage virtual links in OSPF to connect non-backbone areas to the backbone area, thus overcoming network design limitations and ensuring an appropriate hierarchy of OSPF areas.
At the end of this Tutorial
By the end of this tutorial, students will have a solid understanding of how to implement and manage OSPF in MikroTik RouterOS in a variety of network scenarios. They will be able to:
- Design and implement an OSPF network in a single area, ensuring efficient and simple routing.
- Climb OSPF to multiple areas, optimizing the network to improve performance and routing management.
- Solve OSPF area connectivity issues by using virtual links, allowing network design flexibility while maintaining OSPF best practices.
This knowledge will empower students to apply OSPF effectively in their network environments, improving the reliability, scalability, and efficiency of the networks they manage.
