Course Objectives
The main objective of this course, BGP protocol with MikroTik RouterOS (MAE-RAV-BGP), is to provide participants with in-depth and practical knowledge of the BGP (Border Gateway Protocol) protocol using the MikroTik RouterOS router operating system.
The course ranges from fundamental concepts to advanced configurations and scenarios, allowing students to acquire skills to implement, manage and optimize BGP networks in enterprise and service provider environments.
Objectives by Chapter
Chapter 1 – BGP
- Understand what BGP is and its importance in Internet routing.
- Learn about Autonomous Systems (AS) and how they are assigned.
- Know the structure of BGP packets and route selection.
- Become familiar with BGP capabilities, sessions, and updates.
Chapter 2 – BGP Scenarios
- Explore different connection scenarios such as Single Homed, Multi Homed, among others.
- Understand how route distribution is performed in BGP scenarios.
Chapter 3 – eBGP/iBGP
- Delve into the differences and applications of eBGP and iBGP.
- Understand and apply routing filters and properties in both types of BGP.
Chapter 4 – BGP Attributes
- Know the attributes that influence BGP routing decisions.
- Learn how to configure and optimize these attributes in RouterOS for different scenarios.
What Will the Student Get at the End of the Course?
Upon completion of this course, students will be able to:
- Configure and manage BGP in a MikroTik RouterOS environment.
- Understand and apply advanced routing practices in real-life situations.
- Diagnose and resolve BGP-related problems.
- Optimize route selection and improve network efficiency by configuring BGP attributes.
- Implement complex BGP scenarios such as Multi Homed and Dual Homed.
- Understand security in BGP and how to implement authentication.
- Use routing filters and modify attributes to comply with specific policies.
The course will also provide practical material, configuration examples and laboratories to ensure that students can immediately apply the knowledge acquired in operational environments.
