Course Objectives
The MTCTCE course focuses on providing participants with the knowledge necessary to configure and manage key aspects of the network using MikroTik devices. Through the different chapters, students will learn about DNS, DHCP, firewall, NAT, mangle, HTB, queues, proxy, TTL and load balancing, among other topics.
The practical laboratories will allow participants to apply the concepts learned in a real environment and reinforce their understanding of them.

DNS
- Understand what DNS is and its importance in networks.
- Learn how to configure and manage the DNS cache on MikroTik devices.
- Learn how to monitor and delete the DNS cache.
- Get familiar with static DNS entries.

- Develop practical transparent DNS and static DNS labs.
DHCP
- Understand the operation and communication of the DHCP protocol.
- Identify DHCP clients and configure functionality quickly.

FirewallFilter
- Understanding packet flow in a firewall.
- Analyze the different flowcharts for layer 2 and layer 3 in RouterOS v5 and v6.
- Know the facilities, processes and automatic decisions in the firewall.
- Get familiar with the firewall filter structure.
- Learn about connection tracking and TCP states.
- Explore specific firewall filter actions and settings.
Firewall Filter – Chain Input
- Study the firewall entry chain and its basic rules.
- Identify and mitigate types of network intrusion, such as port scans, DoS and DDoS attacks.
- Analyze ICMP segment structure and address ping flood.
- Carry out practical input filtering and network intrusion detection laboratories.
Firewall Filter – Chain Forward
- Explore the firewall forwarding chain and its applications.
- Conduct practical laboratories related to packet filtration in the forwarding chain.
Bogon IPs
- Learn about bogon IP addresses and their importance in traffic filtering.
- Understand how to configure and use bogon IP addresses in the MikroTik environment.
NAT firewall
- Become familiar with the structure of the NAT firewall.
- Explore the actions of dst-nat and redirect on the NAT firewall.
- Perform practical dst-nat configuration labs.
- Understand the limitations and challenges of Source NAT.
- Learn about NAT Helpers and related NAT actions.
- Study the RAW configuration in the firewall and its relationship with the mangrove.
Mangle Firewall
- Understand the concept of MSS (Maximum Segment Size) and how to change it in the firewall.
- Learn to mark packets in the mangle firewall.
- Study the structure of the mangrove.
- Explore connection and packet marking in the mangle firewall.
- Carry out practical mangrove exercise laboratories.
HTB
- Know the colors of the queues in Winbox and their meaning.
- Study the structure of the HTB (Hierarchical Token Bucket).
- Learn about dual throttling and queuing priority.
- Analyze typical HTB configuration examples.
Queues
- Identify the main changes to queues in version 6 of RouterOS.
- Understand the general concepts and principles of speed limitation.
- Explore simple queues and the queue tree in RouterOS.
- Study the different types of queues and their characteristics.
- Get familiar with the PCQ implementation in RouterOS.
Burst
- Learn about burst in the context of queuing and rate limiting.
- Understand how to configure and use burst in RouterOS.
Web proxy
- Explore transparent proxy settings.
- Learn how to use proxy-based firewall.
- Enable and manage the cache on the proxy.
- Study HTTP methods and access lists in the proxy.
TTL
- Understand the TTL switching action in the mangrove.
- Study how to modify the TTL of packets in RouterOS.
Load balancing
- Learn different load balancing methods such as PCC, ECMP and Nth Packet.
- Understand how to configure and use each load balancing method in RouterOS.
By the end
Upon completion of the course, students will be trained as MikroTik Certified Traffic Control Engineers and will be able to implement effective network traffic management solutions.
