To check the license level on a MikroTik computer, you can follow these steps using WinBox or the command line (CLI) via SSH or Telnet.
MikroTik offers different licensing levels for its RouterOS devices, each with a specific set of features and capabilities. Here I show you how to do it in both methods:
Using WinBox
- Connect to your MikroTik device using WinBox, a graphical administration tool provided by MikroTik. If you don't have WinBox yet, you can download it from the official MikroTik website.
- Open WinBox and connect your device by entering the IP address, username and password.
- Once connected, go to the “System” menu found in the list of options on the left.
- Within “System”, select “License”. Here you will be able to see all the relevant information about your license, including the license level, the remaining time (if applicable), and the software ID. The license level will tell you the capabilities of your MikroTik device and the functionalities you can expect from it.
Using the Command Line (CLI)
1. Connect to your MikroTik device using an SSH or Telnet client, depending on your access configuration.
2. Once connected, access the command terminal if you are not directly there after logging in.
3. Type the following command and press Enter:
/system license print
4. This command will show you detailed information about the license of your MikroTik device, including the license level. You will see details such as the current license level, software ID, and other data related to the license of your MikroTik equipment.
Each license level offers different features and capabilities, from level 3, generally intended for wireless routers and CPE clients, to level 6, which offers unlimited EoIP capabilities, tunnels, and number of Hotspot users, among others.
Checking the license level is crucial to ensure your device can meet the specific needs of your network.
