CPU consumption can be viewed in the /system/resource menu in the “CPU Load” field.
On a MikroTik computer, you can monitor CPU consumption in several ways, using both the graphical user interface (GUI) and the command line (CLI).
WinBox (GUI)
WinBox is a graphical management tool for MikroTik devices that provides an easy way to configure the device and monitor its performance.
- Open WinBox and connect to your MikroTik device.
- Go to “System” → "Resources". Here, in the “General” tab, you will be able to see the CPU usage percentage, as well as information about memory, disk space, and the RouterOS operating system version.
WebFig (Web GUI)
WebFig is the web interface for managing MikroTik devices, accessible through any web browser.
- Access WebFig by entering the IP address of your MikroTik device in the address bar of your browser and logging in with your credentials.
- Select “System” in the main menu, and then "Resources". CPU usage will be displayed here, along with other system resources.
Terminal (CLI)
For users who prefer the command line, RouterOS offers a powerful CLI interface accessible through WinBox's own terminal, WebFig, or via SSH.
- Access the Terminal from RouterOS via your preferred method.
- Run command
/system resource print
. This command will display a list of system resources, including current CPU usage. The CPU usage percentage is displayed next to the “cpu-load” label.
The Dude
The Dude is a free app from MikroTik that allows you to monitor your network, including MikroTik devices and other SNMP devices. If you have The Dude configured to monitor your network:
- Add your MikroTik device to The Dude if you haven't already.
- Navigate to your device in The Dude, and you will be able to see real-time CPU usage as part of the overall device statistics.
Additional considerations
- Continuous monitoring: For more detailed analysis or continuous monitoring of CPU usage, consider setting up external network monitoring tools that support SNMP or APIs, such as Zabbix or PRTG, which can collect and store performance metrics over time.
- Acting: Constantly high CPU usage may be indicative of configuration issues, a network attack, or simply that the device is reaching its capacity limit. Identifying and correcting the underlying cause is crucial to ensuring optimal performance of your network.
Regularly monitoring CPU usage on your MikroTik devices will help you keep your network running efficiently and identify potential problems before they impact network performance.
