The “Limit Uptime” parameter in the MikroTik RouterOS Users tab is used to control the total connection time allowed to a specific user.
This feature is particularly useful in environments where you want to limit the duration of a user's session, such as public Wi-Fi networks, hotels, cafes, or temporary access networks for events.
When you configure “Limit Uptime” for a user, you are defining a maximum limit of time that the user can be connected to the network. Once this time expires, the user's session is automatically terminated, and the user must log in again or request an extension of the connection time to continue using the service.
This limit applies from the moment the user successfully logs in for the first time.
For example, if you set “Limit Uptime” to 1 hour for a user, this user will be able to access the network and use its resources for one hour. After one hour of continuous use, the user will be logged out automatically.
This feature is part of RouterOS's broadband control and access management capabilities, allowing network administrators to implement fair usage policies and efficiently manage network resources between multiple users.
It can also be used to offer differentiated access plans, for example, providing different connection times depending on the level of service purchased by the user.
