If the reset was not performed, it may be that we did not carry out the process correctly. Through the following link we can see the process https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8Lpeq8HR4_8&ab_channel=AbcXperts
If it is not reset, we would have to reinstall the operating system with the Neinstall tool to carry out the process, we can see the following link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yCYcUm7byrY&t=2s
If you forgot your MikroTik router password and the standard reset method doesn't work, you still have some options to regain access to the device. Here I describe a general procedure that could help you, but keep in mind that this process will delete the current configuration of the device, so you will have to reconfigure it from scratch.
Netinstall method
Netinstall software allows you to reinstall the RouterOS operating system on MikroTik devices over a network connection. This method is useful when you have forgotten the password and need to completely reset the device.
Requirements:
- Download the Netinstall software from the MikroTik website.
- Have physical access to the MikroTik router.
- An Ethernet cable to connect the router to your computer.
- (Optional) Download the latest version of RouterOS for your device from the MikroTik website.
General Steps:
- Configure your computer: Configure a static IP address on the network interface of your computer that will be connected to the MikroTik. Make sure it is in the same IP address range as the default configuration of the MikroTik or in a range that you use for the Netinstall process.
- Connect the Router: Turn off your MikroTik router, connect the Ethernet cable from your computer to the MikroTik. Make sure you use the appropriate port recommended by MikroTik for the Netinstall process, often it is the first port or a specific one indicated in the documentation.
- Start Netinstall: Run the Netinstall program on your computer and configure it to recognize the router. It may be necessary to temporarily disable your computer's firewall or make adjustments to allow Netinstall to function properly.
- Put the MikroTik in Boot Mode: Turn on the MikroTik device while holding down the reset button (some models require a specific procedure, such as holding down the button before connecting the power cable). Keep the button pressed until you see signs that the device is in boot mode (the lights may behave in a specific way or you may see the device appear in Netinstall).
- Install RouterOS: Select the device in Netinstall, assign the RouterOS image you want to install (if you haven't downloaded one previously, Netinstall can use a version that is built in) and begin the installation. Make sure to check the “Do not keep old configuration” option if you want to delete the old configuration, including the forgotten password.
- Reconfigure your Router: Once the reinstallation is complete, your router will be in its factory settings and you can access it with the default credentials to reconfigure it according to your needs.
Remember that this process will delete all current settings on the device, so it is advisable to have a backup of your settings if possible. If you are uncomfortable performing these steps or if your device is not responding as expected, consider contacting MikroTik support or an IT professional for additional assistance.
