These devices come with a level 3 license that can only be used to create a point-to-point (One AP and One Station) therefore if you configure AP mode it will only allow you to connect one station. If you want more stations to connect, you must raise the license level to level 4.
If your MikroTik SXT Lite2 has been updated to a level 4 license and is configured as an access point (AP) in bridge mode for 2.4 GHz WiFi but only allows one device to connect, there are several possible reasons that could be causing this problem.
We detail some of the most common causes and how you could address them:
1. User Limitation
- Cause: You may have a limitation set on the number of clients that can connect simultaneously. This setting can be intentional or accidental.
- Solution: Check your MikroTik settings to make sure there are no restrictions on the number of clients. This can be verified in the wireless interface configuration under the “Access” or “Maximum number of clients” section.
2. MAC Filtering
- Cause: MAC address filtering may be enabled, allowing only specific devices to connect to your network.
- Solution: Check the MAC filtering settings on your MikroTik device. If enabled, make sure the MACs of the devices you want to connect are authorized.
3. DHCP problems
- Cause: If you have a DHCP server configured on your MikroTik, there could be a very limited or insufficient IP address range, preventing more than one device from obtaining an IP address.
- Solution: Make sure the range of IP addresses assigned by DHCP is sufficient for the number of devices you expect to connect. Adjust the range if necessary.
4. Software or Firmware Issues
- Cause: A bug or problem in the firmware or software version of your MikroTik could be limiting connectivity.
- Solution: Check if updates are available for your MikroTik firmware and update it to the latest version. This may resolve known issues affecting connectivity.
5. Wireless Interface Configuration
- Cause: The wireless interface settings may be set incorrectly, limiting the ability to connect more than one device.
- Solution: Check your wireless interface's advanced settings, such as operating mode, to ensure it is configured correctly to function as an access point that allows multiple connections.
6. Hardware Problems
- Cause: Although less likely, there could be a hardware issue that limits connectivity.
- Solution: Try restarting your MikroTik device. If the problem persists, try another device to rule out a hardware failure.
If after reviewing these points the problem continues, I would recommend seeking specific assistance for your configuration or contacting MikroTik support directly, as they may be able to offer more detailed solutions based on your particular situation and the exact configuration of your device.
