Compared to IPv4, how much does streaming improve using IPv6?

By eliminating NAT, IPv6 can provide a more direct and efficient path for data packets, which is beneficial for streaming.
  3. Routing Efficiency:
    • IPv6 has been designed to enable more efficient routing and packet handling with better support for multicast which is essential for the efficient transmission of streaming data to multiple recipients.
  4. Improved Support for QoS (Quality of Service) Services:
    • IPv6 includes enhanced capabilities for quality of service management, crucial for prioritizing streaming traffic over other less time-sensitive types of traffic. This can help maintain streaming quality even on congested networks.

Practical Considerations:

  • IPv6 adoption: Although IPv6 offers many theoretical improvements, the actual experience depends on the adoption of the protocol by service providers, content delivery systems (CDNs), and end devices. If any of these elements continue to operate primarily on IPv4, the potential improvements of IPv6 will not be fully realized.
  • Network Implementation: Network infrastructure, including hardware and software that handles IPv6 traffic, must be properly configured and optimized to take advantage of IPv6 features.
