MikroTik still does not have IPv6 support with HotSpot.
Until April 2023, MikroTik RouterOS supports hotspot creation, a feature that allows network administrators to establish a captive portal for user authentication, session management and web page redirection.
However, the hotspot system in RouterOS has traditionally been oriented and optimized to work with IPv4.
Deploying a hotspot that uses exclusively IPv6 presents some challenges and limitations due to the fundamental differences in address management and routing between IPv4 and IPv6.
Although RouterOS is capable of handling IPv6 traffic and offers capabilities for its management and routing, full integration of IPv6-specific hotspot capabilities, such as captive portal with authentication and accounting for IPv6 users, may not be supported in the same way as with IPv4.
For hotspot solutions on IPv6 networks, it is recommended to review the latest RouterOS software updates and official MikroTik documentation, as MikroTik continues to develop and improve its products and may have introduced improved support for IPv6 hotspots in more recent versions after my last update.
For networks that operate both IPv4 and IPv6 (dual-stack), the MikroTik hotspot can manage users and sessions on the IPv4 side while handling IPv6 traffic in parallel, ensuring compatibility and functionality for devices and applications that use both protocols.
If you are considering deploying a hotspot on a predominantly IPv6 or purely IPv6 network, it would be prudent to consult MikroTik's latest technical documentation or contact their support directly for guidance on current capabilities and recommended best practices.
